Jesus Christ: No “Community Organizer”

Barack Hussein Obama has recently come under the heading of “people who have been favorably compared to Jesus Christ”. You know, the Son of God, the Savior of the World, the Word Made Flesh, the Risen Christ, the Lamb of God, the Good Shepherd? Yeah, Him. I don’t know who started this rumor, but let me assure you, it is just a rumor.

For B. Hussein O. to be compared to Jesus Christ because “Jesus Christ was a community organizer” is not just ludicrous at best; but at the least, it is blasphemous! When you consider the accomplishments of Jesus Christ:

  • Lived a sinless life
  • Healer of many
  • Raised the dead
  •  Made wine by speaking the words
  • Cast out evil spirits
  • Put back on a guard’s ear
  • Walked on water
  • Calmed storms
  • Fed the multitudes with a few fish and some loaves of bread
  • Forgave sins
  • Died for any and all who would accept His sacrifice
  • Was dead three days then rose again
  • Is alive today and sitting at the right hand of God
B. Hussein O. just doesn’t add up! Has B. Hussein O. ever lived without sin? Has BHO ever healed anyone, or raised anyone from the dead? Has BHO ever made wine from water by speaking words over it? Yes, I admit he can drone on and on and on (mostly with “uhh… uhhh…uhhh…”), but even B. Hussein O. cannot ferment water into wine with words! How about healing the severed ear of someone: has he ever done that? Or maybe it was just a little bit of fingertip? Maybe he made their hair grow back without them using Rogaine ® or something similar? Oh, I know. Maybe he rose from the dead! That’s it. That’s what B. Hussein O. did to be considered on equal grounds with the Son of God. No? Oh! That’s right! It was his audience that rose from the dead after one of his speeches! Sorry. I forgot! (Bad me.)

B. Hussien O. being compared to the “community organizer”, Jesus Christ? When did Jesus Christ ever tell people the government can do it for them? When did Jesus organize people to march for their own rights? When did Jesus have forms for people to fill out, meetings for them to be at, or offices to go to? Admittedly, Jesus did have meetings: but were they appointment-type meetings in which you had a certain time, date, place to be there to meet with “X” to be able to do “Y”? No. That is what B. Hussein O. organized. BHO organized things to make people dependent upon the government; not on themselves and not on God.

When Jesus — the real Jesus — “organized” people, He organized them to be reliant on His Father and themselves, not on the government. Jesus organized them to be working for their own food, clothes and housing, not relying on someone else to do so for them. In fact, the real Jesus healed many, many people and enabled them to do just that: work for themselves, not rely on others. The blind saw, the lepers were healed, the lame walked, demons were cast out, the woman with an issue of blood was healed, and Lazarus rose from the dead. Pretty dramatic healing, that. Never saw B. Hussein O. do that (except to his advisor’s checking account balances).

Jesus — the real Jesus — cannot actually be called a “community organizer”. Jesus never organized anyone except the fact that He called twelve apostles to come follow Him to become “fishers of men”. And they came, and they followed and they learned. The only “organizing” He did of His apostles was to (Matthew 10:1) “[give] them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” So Jesus “organized” them to heal people, and to preach salvation to them; not government salvation, but God salvation. Jesus taught that a little child would be greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:1-10) and when Jesus taught about who would be greatest among the disciples, He said, “Whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” (Matthew 20:27). This is not the delegation of authority (the “organizing”) the disciples wanted. They wanted the list, top to bottom, who starts at the top then who takes over after that. But, no. Jesus was not going to give them that. He gave them ministry, service and possible death; not really a good organizational plan with leadership charts and phone banks there, just a good, old-fashioned, personal example and then Jesus gave Himself up to be killed by the “community organizers”.

Excuse you? What was that I said? Yep. If you look at the facts in the Bible, it was the “community organizers” who killed Christ. Read any of the Gospel accounts of the crucifixion of Christ and you will see that it was the Chief Priests, Scribes, High Priest[s] and Elders who killed Christ. Wouldn’t they be considered more “community organizers” than Jesus? They had been around a lot longer than Jesus Christ; had been “in” with government officials; had many people who belonged to their organizations and had buildings they met in. That’s more of a “community organizer” than Jesus Christ. After all, Jesus’s ministry lasted less than four years, had fewer than twenty disciples (at the time of His death) and was only successful in saving souls, not organizing a community. Jesus brought salvation, not membership. Jesus brought eternal life, not community life. Jesus brought a relationship with God, not a meeting place and a membership identification card.

(Don’t get me wrong: the Chief Priests, Scribes and Elders had to do what they did and I do not begrudge them for it, nor hold them responsible for Christ’s death per se. If they had not done what they did, then some of the major prophecies about the Messiah — the real Messiah — would not have been fulfilled and it would have been impossible for Jesus of Nazareth to have been who He claimed He was: the Son of God. Thus, I hold no resentment, anger or ill-will toward them; nor should anyone else.)

However, that does not discount the fact that these were the same men who had been around for years in the same organization that the community of a certain segment of people of that time organized around, in, and by. These men were the teachers, the marriage brokers, the mediators, the rule-makers of their time and in their community. If that’s not a “community organizer”, I don’t know what is.

If B. Hussein O. is a good person to compare to Jesus — the real Jesus — then I suppose we can also compare B. Hussein O. to God Himself, for that is who the real Jesus was. Is it fair to compare B. Hussein O. to God? Considering how some in the media and some of his supporters are acting, I begin to wonder.
